Many of us carry around a sense that something is not right or a feeling of unease and cover up that feeling for the sake of a peaceful marriage or avoiding conflicts within the family. I have seen people in many marriages put up with abuse because the behavior was not recognized. Wives and husbands simply wrote it off as moodiness or that the abuser was 'having a bad day'. Abusers were often described as 'difficult' or 'high strung' as though that excused their behavior and the rest of us should put up with it. The abuser, of course, never apologized.
